Fashion Talk

Today, let's talk about fashion! Yes, fashion. Do you have a sense of fashion? I must admit that I'm clueless when it comes to fashion. I just go for plain shirts -- gray, white, black -- and plain pants.

I've never been finicky about the clothes I wear. Or how they look. In fact, an aunt was dumbfounded when she learned that I don't iron my clothes at all. Yeah, I'm the wash and wear kind of guy. Actually, to be honest, I don't know why we bother too much about ironing clothes. It consumes a lot of electricity and we only use our clothes once and have to wash them again. There are exceptions to my non-ironing rule though, like when I really have to go formal.

So that's my sense of fashion.

Next, let's talk about classic fashion. What comes to your mind when someone says that a fashion is classic? To me, it would be that kind of fashion that survived the test of time. It's kind of old but it is actually ageless.

Remember the bell bottoms of your parents, the stretchy pants of the 80s, and the shoulder pads that your female teachers used to wear in the 90s? Can you imagine yourself wearing them now? Nah, I don't think so. Those are NOT classic fashion. They are just passing trends that look silly from the rearview mirror.

Anyways, when it comes to classic fashion I think a celebrity that embodies what it is would be Roger Federer. Is his sense of fashion ageless? Check. Nothing fancy? Check. Nothing seemingly trendy but actually silly? Check. Nothing loud? Check. No-frills kind of guy? Check. There, no contest, Federer is our embodiment of classic fashion. [Aside: Except when he wears that cream colored jacket in Wimbledon.]

Are you like, "Huh! I understand why Bill is blogging about Federer but why is he blogging about fashion? And its from out of the blue too."

Yeah, like you don't know why I blog about things from out of the blue. The specific reason though is that some of you might be interested in joining this "make a commercial contest" sponsored by Dockers, a clothing company with an ageless sense of fashion. If you win the contest, your entry might be shown in the Tonight Show With Jay Leno. For more information on the contest rules and regulations, you should visit the Dockers contest website.
