The Linky Love Train Meme

Time to do a meme which we have not been doing for some time. Thanks to JMom, our kailiyan in North Carolina who likes to cook, for tagging us to do this. The idea of this meme is to pass the links around which means that, if we keep the link train going, all of us will have more links.

So folks, let's get aboard the Linky Train. All you have to do is:
1. Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and link back to the blog that put you on the list in the paragraph. This isn’t a suggestion. You need to break up the duplicate content. Someone took the time to add you so the least you can do is give them an extra link back.
2. Copy the list of originals below COMPLETELY and add it to your blog. If you would like a different keyword for your blog then change it when you do your post and it should pass to most blogs with that keyword.
3. Take the adds from the blog that added you and place them in the “Originals” list.
4. Add at least 1 new blog that you KNOW is using the DO FOLLOW plugin to the list in the “My Adds” section.
5. Let the people you’ve added know, so that they can keep the list going!

My adds: Okidok. Now that we know the rules, it's now time to tag and I am tagging the following fellow bloggers:
1. Miskina Ano na Isip
2. My Raconteur Attempts
3. Page 101
4. Native Sentimentalist
5. Ody Batay-an Cua

Here's the rest of the Linky Love Train...

A Really Bad Spam

There are spams and spams and there's a really bad spam. This one is an example of a bad one.

Subject: PayPal Security Measures!

Dear PayPal Member,
Your account has been randomly flagged in our system as a part of our routine security measures. This is a must to ensure that only you have access and use of your Paypal account and to ensure a safe PayPal experience.

We require all flagged accounts to verify their information on file with us. To verify your information at this time, please visit our secure server webform by clicking the hyperlink below:

Click here to verify your Information.
I must admit that this got me worried because I happen to have a Paypal account. And the mail is very believable and straightforward. Thank God for Gmail who flagged this spam with this red alert:

Ooops, that's hard to read but this is what it says:
Warning: This message may not be from whom it claims to be. Beware of following any links in it or of providing the sender with any personal information.
True enough. Although the spammer pretended to be from Paypal (PayPal Security Center daw) he used a generic email (webmaster@info.com) which is different from the usual Paypal notification sender (@paypal.com).

Now, why is this a really bad spam? Because it threatens our finances. Imagine if you were sucked into it and gave out your Paypal information. You can kiss your Paypal money goodbye.

Well played, spammer, well played. May you burn in hell for the people you've fooled.

Spamwatch: An Introduction

When we included our contact email up there and asked you to "Email Us", we were hoping that some of you will get in touch. True enough some of you did and we are very grateful for that. We hope that you will continue to send us emails because we love reading them :-)

However, we also have been receiving a lot of spam mail from people who are promoting just about anything under the sun. Like the following for instance:

Hi
Our corporation is searching for staff in the United States to be our representative in the North America
Funding of USD70000 /yr.
We don't ask for any investment.
Are you interested? Visit our site, to know more
Our take: Talk about sending the wrong message to the wrong guy. If our spammer is truly looking for a staff in the U.S. wouldn't you think s/he'll come up with a better recruitment process. And that thing about not asking for investment. I'll bet s/he is telling the truth. After all, pag may investment, merong return on investment. In this case however, you can kiss your money goodbye if you ever gave them money. Consider it a donation because hindi na babalik iyan.

Now here's another spam designed to ensnare loveless lonely people. To her credit, she knows what she's doing because she's sending this spam just before the season of love. Kawawa ka nga naman pag wala kang valentine date. She's right there waiting for you. A pretty nice girl who will send you pictures.
Do not ignore me please,
I found your email somewhere and now decided to write you.
Let me know if you do not mind. If you want I can send you some pictures of me.
I am a nice pretty girl. Don't reply to this email.
Email me direclty at dciera479@californiaimprove.info
We have included her email not because we want you to write her but because we want those who harvest emails on the web to spam her as well. Hopefully they will be spamming each other.

Since this is Spamwatch: An Introduction we will be featuring and mocking other spams in future posts. So spammers send us your spam so we will have materials to use.

Meanwhile, those of you looking for news and information about the Cordilleras should visit our new home.

Watching the Australian Open II

Were you, like me, disappointed when Roger lost? Let's not be bummed too much though. A good run does end sometimes and I do not think Federer, with all his titles and millions, is getting drunk because he lost. It's about time too that other players have Grand Slam titles of their own. Adi tako bokodan di gawis (rough translation: Let's share the good things) as we iSagadans say.

I'm happy though that Novak and Jo-Wilfried are going to fight it out. I hope Jo-Wilfried wins because he is the underdog. And like Edwin, I too root for the underdog. However, Jo-Wilfried hardly looks the underdog with the way he's been playing. Still, go Jo-Wilfried!

On the women's side, wow that was a dream final. Especially for teenage fan boys with raging hormones. I was hoping Ivanovic will win but Sharapova is the better player during this Open and deserved the title. His dad is annoying during the whole tournament though. How can you solve a problem like Maria's dad, no?

By the way, based on our Google visitors keying in "Tsonga Filipino", it seems like I'm not the only one who wondered about Tsonga's ancestry. It's that hyphenated, double first name more than anything else that makes one wonder. Paano kasi, ang hilig ng Pinoy gumawa ng combination names like that. Anyways, to you Google visitors, Jo-Wilfried has no Filipino blood in him. That's according to wikipedia and our resident tennis expert, Wil Reyes.

Watching the Australian Open

Go Jo-Wilfried!!!

Hello kailiyans Down Under! Are anyone of you watching (or monitoring) the Australian Open? Kind of interesting results so far, no? Upsets began on Day One and kept going. I'm glad Roger Federer is still there and I hope he wins the title. I wouldn't mind though if the young ones (particularly Djokovic and the Tsonga kid) end up winning.

On the women's side, I'm kind of disappointed that Henin lost. But she has many Grand Slam titles already so maybe it's time for the other players to have a Grand Slam of their own. I'm hoping that one of the Serbian girls win. Go Ana and Jelena, let's make it an all Serbian finals.

Wil, what say you of the Australian Open? Much more interesting to watch because of the upsets eh?

By the way, is Jo-Wilfried Tsonga part Filipino? Just wondering because methinks only a Filipino mom would come up with a combined/hyphenated first name like Jo-Wilfried :-)
